The president of LaLiga, Javier Tebashas denied the statements of the former coach of the FC Barcelona, Xavi Hernandezin an interview with ‘Estudio Estadio’ on Teledeporte. Tebas assures that it is not true that the green light was given for the possible return of Lionel Messi to the Barça club in 2023, thus contradicting the version that Xavi had offered this weekend in an interview with La Vanguardia.

“That’s not true. First, we should have known what Messi He wanted to charge to enter into all of Barça’s financial ‘fair play’, which was already complicated at that time, and under what conditions it came. And then, being a player who is valued at a very high value, it would be with many difficulties,” Tebas explained while ensuring that “no one” from Barça contacted them at the time to address the issue.

Xavi Hernández has explained that the return of the Argentine player was close to occurring during his time as Barça coach: “Laporta is not telling the truth. He was about to return with me as coach. He was signed. January 2023. I contacted him after becoming world champion and he told me that he was excited to return,” he maintains.

Likewise, he added that the former president of FC Barcelona backed down. “He told me verbatim that yesIf Messi returned he was going to make war on him and that he couldn’t afford it when we already had the green light from LaLiga.”

The controversy arises at a delicate moment for the club, since the debate about the possible return of Messi and the decisions of the board chaired by Laporta once again generates discussion within Barcelona fans.

Tebas’s full interview can be seen this Monday starting at 10:45 p.m. on Teledeporte.
