The Paris – Nice 2026, the ‘Race of the Sun’, competes in its 84th edition, fulfilling one of its traditions, which is to leave the Yvelines department at the gates of Paris. The first stage runs between Achères and Carrières-sous-Poissy, with a route of 170.9 kilometers. Follow it live on Teledeporte and RTVE Play starting at 3:50 p.m.
With Jonas Vingegaard as the main favorite to succeed his teammate Matteo Jorgenson, the Dane will try to remove the thorn in his side with this race. The double winner of the Tour had to abandon last year due to a fall when he was leading, which opened up the victory to his teammate.
He won’t have it easy this year either with a demanding course and high-level rivals who will make things difficult for him from the first kilometer. The UAE Emirates arrives with Joao Almeida as a reference and the Lidl-Trek will have the Spanish Juan Ayuso as its main asset.
Stage 1 of Paris Nice 2026: profile and route
As for the route, the first stage will run along a relatively flat route in its first 100 km, with some ‘saw teeth’, until the first of the four third category climbs that complicate the end of the stage in a circuit in which the finish line will be passed three times.
The Côte de Gargenville and the Côte de Vaux-sur-Seine are the first two climbs of a route that goes from less to more. The first is 2.5 km at 4.8% and the second is 1.4 km at 7%. Afterwards, you will climb the most demanding route twice, the Côte de Chanteloup-des-Vignes, which is 1.1km at 8%, but on its hardest slopes it goes up to 12%.
