The Spanish team that will participate in the Winter Paralympic Games in Milan-Cortina d’Ampezzo on March 6 and 15 will finally have eight members, as skiers Iraide Rodríguez and Alejandra Requesens and their guide, Victoria Ibáñez, join the delegation after receiving nominal invitations.
The initial delegation was made up of Audrey Pascual, María Martín-Granizo, Javier Marcos, Emilio Redondo and Higinio Rivero, so when it expanded to eight, there will be more women -five- than men -three-something that had not happened until now, reports the Spanish Paralympic Committee in a statement.
The eight athletes, all debutants in the Games, They will participate in four of the six disciplines of the program and only in wheelchair curling and ice hockey there will be no representation.
In alpine skiing, Pascual, Martín-Granizo, Marcos, Rodríguez and the Requesens-Ibáñez couplewhile Redondo will do snowboarding and Rivero will do cross-country skiing and biathlon.
In addition to the athletes, there will be a support team made up of 16 people including coaches, medical services and technical, maintenance and office staff, distributed between the Paralympic villages of Cortina d’Ampezzo and Tesero.
Spain participated in Beijing 2022 and had two athletes with disabilities and, in PyeongChang 2018, three. The Paralympic Winter Games will consist of 79 events spread between Milan, Cortina and Tesero.
The opening ceremony will take place on March 6 at the Verona Arena and the closing ceremony on the 15th at the Olympic Stadium in Cortina d’Ampezzo.
