The cyclist Jaume Guardeño, one of the greatest promises of the Spanish pelotonis hospitalized in Sabadell (Barcelona) after suffering a serious accident caused by a collision with a vehicle while training last Tuesday, as confirmed by the Caja Rural-RGA team in an official statement.

The runner from Altea (Alicante), resident in Caldes de Montbui (Barcelona), was urgently transferred after the helicopter accident to the Taulí hospital in Sabadell, where remains admitted to the ICU with serious injuries and pending its evolution.

According to sources close to the cyclist, the accident occurred when he tripped over a stone that caused him to lose his balance and collide with a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction. The biggest impact occurred on Guardeño’s head, which caused severe head trauma.

Caja Rural, in its public note, wishes to convey all its support and strength to the cyclist at this time, while wishing him a speedy recovery.

Guardeño was the second Spaniard classified in the last Vuelta

Guardeño, 23 years old, had had an outstanding performance in the last edition of the Volta a Catalunya, as well as in the edition of the Vuelta a España last year, where he finished fourteenth in the final overall and second best classified Spaniard. This season he was one of those called to be part of the team in its historic participation in the Tour de France.
