Striker Brahim Díaz launched that maximum penalty with a Panenka-style attempt that did not end in a goal, at a moment of maximum tension in the match.

The controversy

On the grass, Senegal would end up winning 1-0 after extra timeThanks to a goal from Pape Gueye, a result that initially gave them the continental title and prolonged Morocco’s drought despite hosting the tournament.

However, after the claim presented by the Moroccan federation and its subsequent appeal, the CAF Appeals Board decided to revoke the initial ruling and declare the administrative defeat of Senegal, registering the official result as 3-0 for Morocco.

As reported by CAF, its appeal body upheld the appeal presented by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) and annulled the previous resolution of the Disciplinary Jury, considering that in the first instance the appellant’s right to be heard during the procedure had not been respected.

In application of the articles 82 and 84 of the African Cup of Nations regulationsthe CAF concluded that the behavior of the Senegalese team during the match constitutes a regulatory infraction and declared the team “guilty of losing by non-appearance” the final played on January 18.

“In application of article 84 of the regulations, the Senegal national team was declared guilty of losing the final match by default, registering the result of the match as 3-0 in favor of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation,” said the African organization on its website.

[3

post-813","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-sport-2
["GET
